2021-09-03 MyFM reports in Community Spotlight on debate attended by four of five Huron-Bruce candidates.
Protests are taking place around the world, with thousands of people in attendance, against mandatory ("get it or get fired") covid vaccinations and vaccine passports. Justin attended one of these protests in London, Ontario this week in support of the rights of health care workers (and the general public) not to be threatened with termination if they choose not to be vaccinated against covid (or obtain a vaccine passport).
You may recall it was back in 2018 that Ontario Nurses fought and won an appeal against mandatory influenza vaccinations and the wearing of a mask during their entire shift. "These policies force nurses and other health-care workers to wear an unfitted surgical mask for the entirety of their shift if they choose not to receive the influenza vaccine." "Hayes found there was "scant evidence" that forcing nurses to use masks reduced the transmission of influenza to patients."
Protests against mandatory covid vaccination and vaccine passports: Sudbury, Ontario; Vancouver, BC; Toronto, Ontario; London, UK; Kelowna, BC; Montreal, QC.
London, Ontario health care workers are being threatened with termination if they refuse to get the shot - apparently London doesn't have a medical staffing shortage like the rest of Canada? (Ontario health care receives boost in funding, Ontario hospitals understaffed and overworked) "Two London Hospitals, two very different covid vaccine policies", an article by Jennifer Bieman.

Letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada, regarding censorship.
Justin Trudeau
House of Commons
Ottawa, ON

Dear Mr. Trudeau,
I would like to start this letter with a reminder of our Charter in that Canadians are able to enjoy the freedom of expression within our great nation. By limiting that in any way for any reason is censorship and that is unconstitutional and morally reprehensible. The truth never fears questioning nor open debate.
With your proposed censorship regarding the online community, you are saying that you fear Canadians hearing multiple sides of a story, whatever that may be. Society needs to be able to access ALL information in order to make informed decisions and move forward. Without all available information, it can and will mislead many people and force them to make erroneous decisions and create even more divisiveness amongst the population for those who think for themselves and those who are told what to think (because the other sides have been silenced). We are seeing this divide even today when it comes to race relations and with masks and COVID vaccines.
What we need is more transparency and openness, not less. Canada needs more freedom of expression and speech, not to silence those who have differing opinions. Only those who wish to do harm want the truth or alternatives to not be available to the public. Liars and dictators attempt to quash alternatives to their narratives and that is not what we want in Canada. I am not saying that you are a liar or dictator, I am only drawing similarities and I do not believe you would want to associate yourself with those styles of leaders.
Leaders need to be an example of what to do or how to act and by not censoring people online is a good example of being for the people and not against them. Freedom is the cornerstone of any democracy and what I am asking for is the freedom that we already have through the Charter without fear of that right being taken away for any reason.
Sincerely,
Justin Smith

Letter to Premier Doug Ford, Ontario, regarding COVID and lockdowns.
Premier Doug Ford

Dear Mr. Premier,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of Ontario in regard to the ongoing COVID-19 issue. We are currently in our third lockdown/stay-at-home order and no further ahead in terms of cases.
During your press conferences, you consistently say that you are listening to the medical experts and defer to their expertise. However, when it comes to science, there is always more than one side to an issue, especially when it is something new. Science is meant to be questioned, not silenced. Given a set of data, two experts can come to two different conclusions. What I am suggesting is that you listen to other experts in addition to the ones you are listening to now. Having more information will only benefit you, and as a result, us. For instance, the data shows that there is nothing to be concerned about when it comes to COVID because in comparison to other common activities and diseases COVID has a smaller chance of causing death.
COVID has roughly a 0.3% chance of causing death and yet the chance of dying in a vehicle collision is 0.9% and yet everyone takes driving as a safe thing to do. Furthermore, the chance ofdying from pneumonia (a common and non-fearful medical issue) is up to 30% if hospitalized in the ICU. Comparing the 30% from pneumonia patients, COVID ICU deaths are even lower than that at 28% from the most recent data I have seen.
Another set of statistics show that COVID is less deadly than influenza for either healthier or younger people. This means that we are having businesses closed, an increase in suicides, increase in preventable medical issue deaths (cancer, heart disease, etc.), increase in domestic violence, increase in drug overdoses, and many, many more negative consequences for no real and tangible reason other than to have the illusion that we are saving lives when the opposite is true when we take all of the people into consideration.
We need to look to certain US states that have fully opened and have not had an increase in COVID. It is proof that we do not need these restrictions in place to prevent something that will always be around, seasonally.
Please, Mr. Premier, look into the data and do what is right based on it. The data shows that we have nothing to fear any more than getting into a car and driving to work. End the lockdowns now and remove all mandatory restrictions and let the people choose what they want to do for themselves. What Ontario must do is reopen everything to full capacity and stop ruining the lives of so many people for the illusion that we are helping others survive.
Sincerely,
Justin Smith

Involvement of the formation of the PPC as a political party.
Another signatory was Justin L. Smith, who was formerly active in the Soldiers of Odin. When reached by Global News, Smith confirmed his past involvement in Soldiers of Odin but said he had not been active in the group for “quite a long time.”
The Sudbury Star reported that Smith was president of the Soldiers of Odin in Sudbury as recently as September 2017. Smith said the local group kept that name and logo after splitting away from the Finland organization because it was too costly to remake.
“We are not racists or anti-anyone,” Smith told the Star.
Smith confirmed he was one of the PPC members whose signatures were submitted to register the party and that he was the financial agent for Kevin M. Klerks, the People’s Party candidate for the Huron-Bruce riding in Ontario.
“His activities with the People’s Party of Canada, according to the document you provided dated 2018 and since, are not connected to nor affiliated with the Soldiers of Odin organization in any way,” Klerks said in an email, calling him an “honest and respectful individual.”
“We have discussed his past involvement with the [Soldiers of Odin] organization. I am sorry to disappoint you but there is no story here.”
